Julien Segarra *1985 is a French artist based in Vienna, Austria. Drawn to the documentation of social reality he has been working as photographer for the social magazine l'Itinéraire in Montreal, Canada in 2011. In 2015 he participated in the collective exhibition “Monde Vaste Monde” in the renowned research institute FMSH in Paris where he won the 3rd prize in the PhotoIIAC - Photography, on the Intersection of Art and Ethnography. He is the co-funder of the curatorial platform anele RAGES, that works at the intersection of art and politics. Since 2018 he studies conceptual art (prof. Marina Gržinić ) at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna.
Julien Segarra's work, be it photographic or sound, involves exploration and observation, in which the unexpected has its place. A field approach that he conceives, all mediums combined, as being visual. Space is for him a recurring starting point from which he extracts and documents. It is for him essential to be able to question the space of the banal, the perceptions that we have of it and to confront our personal and collective memories.
